Key stage 1 & 2
Key stage 1 and 2 follow a 4 year rolling thematic curriculum. Due to the diversity of our students needs and abilities, the curriculum is adapted to suit the needs of individual pupils. Curriculum planning within key stage 1 and 2 are organised into two areas, ‘academic’ and ‘sensory’. We have organised the curriculum like this to ensure we meet the needs of all students. Student working within the engagements steps will access the sensory area of this curriculum. The students working within connecting steps will access the academic area of this curriculum. Each and every lesson is adapted and tailored to suit the specific needs of each individual, so that the best possible learning can take place. The themes for each term have been chosen to excite and engage all students. Lessons will be taught around this theme as much as possible. We ensure we cover the expectations of the National curriculum (2014) but skilled teachers adapt this and make it accessible and the correct level for each student. The locally agreed syllabus is followed for Religious education.
Students working within Key stage 1 & 2 also access the “extended curriculum.”
